The Wizard of Wishaw captured snooker's first ranking event of the 2005-2006 campaign-and boy did he do it in style!
The former world champion and world number one defeated defending champion Ronnie O'Sullivan in the Grand Prix final at Preston. His 9-2 victory contained a record 494 unanswered points and consecutive breaks of 103, 104, 138 and 128.
Away from the table John is a doting father and a dab hand at cooking. He appeared alongside celebrity chef Paul Rankin and World Champion Shaun Murphy on Ready Steady Cook.
The 1998 Crucible champ produced a dish of Dover sole, rice and pineapples. "It was absolutely delicious," he says.
