Shaun who? became king of the snooker world at Sheffield's Crucible Theatre last May
In doing so he was the first qualifier since Terry Griffiths in 1979 to win the sport's biggest prize and the lowest ranked. At the age of 22 he was also the second youngest ever world champion. Murphy became a household name with a succession of upsets wins culminating in an 18-16 triumph against Matthew Stevens in front of 7.8 million armchair spectators.
It proved a busy summer for the world number 21. He married girlfriend Clare Llewellyn and set up home in Rotherham, South Yorkshire.
