Carter wins welsh open & betfred sponsor world championship :
Qualified pilot Ali Carter was flying high after capturing his first ever ranking tournament.
The Essex professional came close to landing snooker's biggest prize after reaching last season's Betfred World Championship final.
On that occasion, he had to settle for second best against Ronnie O'Sullivan.
But no one could get Carter at the Newport Centre as he denied Ulsterman Joe Swail a chance to lift the trophy.
