Carlos Alcaraz Reportedly Set to Miss Madrid Open Amid Ongoing Injury Concerns

Carlos Alcaraz’s much-anticipated return to Madrid is now in serious doubt. According to multiple reports from Spanish sports media, the world No. 3 is preparing to officially withdraw from the 2025 Mutua Madrid Open due to a lingering adductor injury in his right leg.

The injury first surfaced during Alcaraz’s run to the final at the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell, where he was defeated by Holger Rune 7-6(6), 6-2. Alcaraz received treatment during the match and told reporters afterward that he would make a final decision following medical evaluations.

Speaking on the Spanish television show El Hormiguero, the 21-year-old admitted, “My participation in Madrid is in doubt, I’m a little bit tired physically. But I have to listen to my body and see how the tests go.”

According to reports from El Larguero, Partidazo de COPE, and Cadena SER’s Pedro Fullana, the news is expected to become official during a press conference scheduled for Thursday at 12:30 p.m. local time at the Caja Magica.

“He didn’t train yesterday, he didn’t train today, and we can confirm that he will not be training tomorrow either,” Fullana stated.

The news is especially disappointing for Spanish fans, as Alcaraz is a two-time Madrid Open champion and one of the country’s most beloved athletes. He reached the quarterfinals at last year’s edition and has frequently spoken about his passion for playing in the Spanish capital.

The injury comes at an unfortunate time, just as Alcaraz appeared to be regaining top form. He had recently strung together a nine-match winning streak, clinching his first title of the season at the Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters and reaching the final in Barcelona.

It also coincides with promotional efforts for his upcoming Netflix docuseries, Carlos Alcaraz: My Way, which is set to give fans an inside look at his journey to tennis stardom.

Barring a quick recovery, Alcaraz’s next scheduled tournament is the Internazionali BNL d’Italia in Rome, beginning May 7. He is also preparing to defend his title at Roland Garros later in the month.
